## About

SRS(Simple RTMP Server) is created in 2013.10 by winlin.
SRS supports the major internet live steraming protocols including RTMP, HLS, HTTP-FLV, HDS and MPEG-DASH.
User can run SRS on LINUX and OSX, with CPUs such as X86, X64, ARM and MIPS.
The cluster feature consists of origin and edge server, which uses vhost as the service unit seperating config for customers.
There're lots of useful features in origin server, including transcoding, DVR, ingesting and forwarding.
The ST coroutine, HTTP API and tracable log cost SRS effective for maintainability.
All wikis are writen in English and Chinese.

> Remark: Although SRS is licenced under [MIT][LICENSE], but there are some depended libraries
which are distributed using their own licenses, please read [License Mixing][LicenseMixing].

### Usage

<strong>Step 1:</strong> Get SRS.

```
git clone https://github.com/ossrs/srs &&
cd srs/trunk
```

<strong>Step 2:</strong> Build SRS.

```
./configure && make
```

> Remark: Recommend Centos6 64bits, for other OS please read wiki([CN][v3_CN_Build],[EN][v3_EN_Build]).

> Note: For multiple cores such as 4CPUs, please use `./configure --jobs=4 && make --jobs=4` to speeed up.

<strong>Step 3:</strong> Run SRS

The HLS overhead is calc by: (HLS - FLV) / FLV * 100%.

The overhead should be larger than this benchmark(48kbps audio is best overhead), for we fix the [#512][bug #512].

1. Encoder: Encoder pushs RTMP stream to SRS.
1. MediaSource: Supports any media source, ingesting by ffmpeg.
1. Ingester: Forks a ffmpeg(or other tools) to ingest as rtmp to SRS, please read [Ingest][v1_CN_Ingest].
1. Streamer: Remuxs other protocols to RTMP, please read [Streamer][v2_CN_Streamer].
1. EXEC: Like NGINX-RTMP, EXEC forks external tools for events, please read [ng-exec][v3_CN_NgExec].
